People working in the asbestos removal industry may wonder how to become a licensed asbestos removal contractor. In this YouTube video, viewers learn how to get a contractor’s license. Being a journeyman means you must have been able to work unsupervised for at least four years. You also must have been registered with OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.) You can’t apply for a contractor’s license until you are at least 18 years old. However, because of the experience requirement, the permit is rarely approved for workers under 23 years old.

Because the license will give you the right to work on your own (or as a self-employed sole proprietor), you must also have either a social security number or an ITIN (individual tax identification number.) The video gave information about a course that can help applicants study for the required exams. The mentioned course will provide videos and instructions on how to apply.

Once you have applied, it typically takes a month to process. Once approved, you will take two tests: a test about business law and another about the principles of the asbestos trade. Once you pass both tests, you will be awarded your contractor’s license.
