Turbine Flowmeters
Turbine flowmeters are basically used to measure the flow of a variety of different things; they measure the velocity of liquids, gases and vapors in pipes, such as hydrocarbons, chemicals, water, cryogenic liquids, air, and industrial gases. Turbine flowmeters are inserted into the flow; they rely on the mechanical energy of the fluid to rotate a rotor, also known as a pinwheel. The faster the fluid flows, the faster the rotor spins. The turbine flow meter then translates this mechanical action of the rotor’s movement into a user readable rate of flow, such as gpm, lpm, etc.
Turbine flowmeters are actually quite useful and are utilized in a variety of different applications. For example, applications for turbine flowmeters are found in the water, petroleum, and chemical industries. Furthermore, they are also often found in the food and beverage, and chemical industries. And keep in mind, aside from turbine flowmeters there are several other kinds of flow meters, such as sight flow indicators, flow switches, and variable area flowmeters. You may want to do a bit of research to find out which flow measurement device is most appropriate for the application for which you plan to use it.
