According to the Commercial Building Consumption Survey, commercial building floor space is rising. The square footage has increased by 11% compared to the number of buildings, which is growing at 6%. The U.S Energy Information Administration data show there are 5.9 million commercial buildings with a total of 97 billion cubic square feet.
